Liguria and Cinque Terre
Day 1: Sestri Levante
Arrival in Genoa and transfer to Sestri Levante. Meet your guide and visit of this beautiful village, known for its beautiful bays “Baia delle Favole” and “Baia del Silenzio” and for its characteristic city centre with the typical “caruggi” full of historical shops. Then transfer to La Spezia, accommodation in the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: The Cinque Terre National Park
Breakfast in the hotel, meeting with the tour guide and transfer to Riomaggiore by train, the first village of the park, from where begins the excursion. Cinque Terre National Park is composed by five villages: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. The most famous path is “Via dell’Amore” that connects Riomaggiore to Manarola, and, continuing on the “Sentiero Azzurro”, you will visit all the other villages. In addition to very beautiful churches and sanctuaries, the particularity of this area is the landscape with terraces overlooking the sea with a lot of vineyards producing excellent wines DOC, as Sciacchetrà and olive groves. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon wine tasting in a typical winery in Monterosso. Return by train to La Spezia and dinner and overnight in the hotel.
Day 3: The three islands and Portovenere
Breakfast in the hotel, meeting with the tour guide and transfer by boat to Portovenere (approx. 30 min. navigation). The morning is dedicated to the visit of this beautiful village with its harbor, the small Church of St. Peter, built at the top of the village where you can enjoy a wonderful view, the 12th century castle and Byron’s Cave, where the famous English poet went to get inspiration for his poetry. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon boat tour of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto Islands. Palmaria Island, certainly the most known, is rich in Mediterranean vegetation and steep cliffs, Tinetto, completely bare of vegetation and Tino, Military zone, where you can still find remains dating from the eleventh century. Return by boat to La Spezia and to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Pisa and Lucca
Breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Pisa. Meeting with the tour guide and visit of the historic centre of the city, an ancient Maritime Republic, with the famous “Campo dei Miracoli” which includes the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Monumental Cemetery and the famous Tower. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Lucca and guided tour of the historical center of the city with Piazza S. Michele in Foro with the Romanesque church, St. Martin Cathedral, the medieval streets and the Piazza Anfiteatro. Then city tour by bike inside the walls of Lucca. Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: The Marble’s Cave and Colonnata (Apuan Alps)
Breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Carrara. Meeting with the tour guide and visit of the Fantiscritti Valley, known in the world for the beautiful marble. Guided tour of the Ravaccione Gallery. Visit to a private gallery, where you can admire the ancient and modern techniques for the extraction of marble. Return along the route of the old “Marble Railway” through bridges and tunnels built more than a century ago. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Colonnata, an ancient village on the Apuan Alps, famous for the production of “Lardo” (fatback). Visit to a laboratory for the preparation of the famous “lardo” and tasting. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Lerici
Breakfast in the hotel and baggage preparation. Transfer to Lerici, the pearl of the “Gulf of Poets”. Meeting with the tour guide and visit of one of the most famous fishing villages of Liguria with the famous Castle which host the Museum Geopaleontologico and his beautiful historical centre. Transfer to Tellaro, near Lerici, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view. Free time for lunch and departure. End of services.
