Classical Apulia and Matera
Day 1: Bari or Brindisi
The tour begins at the point of gathering that is the Bari airport or Brindisi airport. Transfer to the hotel with accommodation on the Itria Valley or Ostuni Coast. Evening free. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: SALENTO, Lecce – Otranto – Gallipoli
After breakfast, departure to visit the historic centre of Lecce and its most significant monuments of Lecce Baroque: San P.za Oronzo, St. Matthew’s Church, Church of the Rosary, Piazza Duomo, Santa Croce. Free lunch. Transfer to Otranto. In the afternoon visit the historic centre of Otranto, the most eastern town in Italy. Visit the cathedral with the Chapel of the 800 martyrs, the crypt and the mosaic work of monaco Pantaleone (one of the largest in the world). Depending on the time still available to continue to Gallipoli on the Ionic coast of Salento. Short visit of the historic city that has numerous churches, monuments, palaces as well as nobility of excellent architectural value. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: ITRIA VALLEY, Alberobello – Ostuni
After breakfast, tour of Alberobello, the capital of the Trulli in Puglia and symbol. Visit the Rione Monti (UNESCO World Heritage), the Church Trullo, Trullo Siamese and other charming glimpses of this unique city. Free lunch. In the afternoon visit the old town of Ostuni, the White City on a hill overlooking acres of olive trees that thin out towards the sea. For lovers of good taste we will rest and enjoy a tour and tasting of typical products in the Cooperative Oil Mill of Ostuni. Possibility to buy local products at very affordable prices. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: ALTA MURGIA & BASILICATA, Matera – Altamura
Breakfast and departure to Matera, the Sassi Magnificent City (UNESCO World Heritage) and perched namesake canyon carved in limestone. We will visit the top with the Civita which is dominated by the magnificent Romanesque Cathedral and the lower part with the Sasso Barisano. Free lunch. In the afternoon we will make a brief stop in Altamura to know and discover this fantastic city full of monuments located in the Alta Murgia National Park. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 5: ITRIA VALLEY, Castellana Grotte – Martina Franca – Cisternino
Breakfast and departure to Castellana Grotte to visit the caves that preserve its beautiful formations of stalagmites and stalactites unique in the world. Free lunch. In the afternoon visit of Martina Franca, a magnificent baroque town, considered the capital of Valle d’Itria. Martina Franca is famous for its palaces and its churches beautifully decorated with the typical white stone much like the Pietra Leccese. Short stop in Cisternino, another beautiful town in the Itria Valley before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Trani – Castel del Monte
Breakfast and departure to Trani, magnificent seaside town north of Bari. Visit its Romanesque Cathedral, a symbol of Puglia, and the castle built by Frederick II of Svevia in defense of the port. Free lunch. In the afternoon visit of Castel del Monte (UNESCO World Heritage) with its unique plant and an octagonal base with 8 towers on each corner always octagonal. It continues for the Gargano. Arrival at the hotel around Manfredonia, dinner and overnight.
Day 7: GARGANO, Manfredonia – Monte Sant’Angelo – San Giovanni Rotondo
Breakfast and visit of Manfredonia. Visit the area of Borgo Antico, transfer to Monte Sant’Angelo visit one of the symbols of Christian pilgrims. Visit of the ancient town and the Grotto of the Archangel, formerly a place of pilgrimage during the Crusades. Free lunch. Afternoon tour of San Giovanni Rotondo. Free visit to the site of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, visit the new sanctuary designed by Renzo Piano, visit the ancient Church of the Convent and church where the saint was praying. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Bari
Breakfast, transfer to airport or train station in Bari. End of services.
