Italy is one of the main tourist destinations around the world, known for its artistic and cultural heritage and for its landscapes. Italy is a peninsula located in the Mediterranean Sea, on the North it is possible to admire the Alps mountain chain which separates Italy from France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia and offers landscapes and skiing resorts that are among the best in the world. The Apennines mountain chain, instead, passes trough all Italy, from the North to the South, from Liguria to Sicily, creating a jagged territory with a great wealth of natural beauties. In Italy there are also some lakes of natural and artistic interest, like Lake Garda, Lake Como and Lake Bracciano, as well as Lake Maggiore whose shores are shared between Italy and Switzerland.
The climate in Italy is mild and temperate, but it can vary from region to region, from the cold northern regions, that offer snowy winters, to the milder and warmer southern regions, especially in summer.
Italy population is about 60 million, it’s the fourth European country in terms of inhabitants, and the great majority of Italians are Roman Catholics. The Italian official currency from 2002 is the Euro.
Art is surely one of the key elements, able to attract the interest of tourist flows towards Italy: the Ancient Romans and the Renaissance have left several historical evidences, considered among the most beautiful on earth.
